“I interviewed refugees and wanted to get the firsthand accounts of how they escaped and what Russian occupation was like,” he said. “Honestly, the war transformed me because of the personal impact, but then talking to refugees, that was the next level. It just changes you, seeing what they’ve gone through and how grateful they are for what they have. It makes you reanalyze what’s important in life.
“With “Refugee,” YEV cuts to the chase, ignores the political minefield and social posturing, and puts himself in the shoes of the refugee fleeing a war; it could be a Ukrainian mother, A Syrian child, a family from Myanmar or people from a hundred other locations fleeing war or disaster or the effects of climate change or political oppression…”
